Hao

Hao, also called the Harp Island, or the bow island  because of its shape. Hao is located 920 kms to the east of Tahiti and is 55 kms in length.

Hao’s lagoon opens on the ocean by the Kaki’s pass. It possesses wealth still underestimated. You can see in particular there starfishes, sea urchins or sea breams.

The atoll contain multiples motus which some shelter magnificent coconut palms and others people in the village of Otepa earn their living from the growing pearl farm industry. The island has other economic assets thanks to the numerous infrastructures inherited from the Center of Experiment of the Pacific, the tracks for planes, electricity, desalination plants of the water or schools.

Hao was a real metropolis in year 1960 because the military staff who performing nuclear tests on Mururoa and fangataufa was accommodated in the island. At the end, the installations were protected for a prospective of a tourist development.
