Photographic testimony, by Danee Hazama
This show absorbs us in the Taiwanese life. It drives us to wonder about the link that could exist between Polynesian and their ancestors. Through the photographs, one can easily identify the similarities between these two peoples through their culture and ethnicity.
Indeed, Taiwanese and Polynesian have numerous common practices: Tapa, tattooing, outrigger canoe making… All these captured moments lead us to believe that French Polynesia has been populated by Taiwanese in exile. No indisputable proof of this theory exists, but the cultural links that exist between them are unmistakable.
Clearly an exhibition about culture and identity, it searches to reconnect Polynesians with their distant “cousins” from all around the world. In the exhibit, Danee Hazama endeavour to reveal the existence of a huge cultural community – the “Austronesian” family.
Designed in two parts: the first part brings together the main scientific research conducted on the Polynesian population. (Anthropology, archaeology, botany, genetics) , the second part focuses to aboriginal tribes from Taiwan. We discover their life, beliefs and traditions through the artist’s lens.

hoto exhibit to be held from December 14th to May 5th in the Museum of Tahiti showcases the ancestors of Polynesians today originating from Taiwan. Through the passionate ethnographic research, Danee Hazama – a professional photographer of Taiwanese origins – the exhibit reveals scenes of Taiwanese life in photos.
