Getting married in Tahiti

Every bride in the world wants her honeymoon to be truly special. For this very special occasion, you surely deserve something that is far beyond ordinary, don’t you agree ?

So what are the reasons that makes Tahiti or Bora Bora so unique, peaceful and romantic that you will keep this experience secretly hidden in your heart for the rest of your life ? You will understand all these reasons as soon as you will get out of your plane at the international airport of Tahiti where smiling and gracious Tahitian hostesses will greet you with the traditional tiare flower….

The unspoiled, calm and peaceful setting of the islands of Tahiti makes it the perfect destination for a romantic and unforgettable honeymoon where after your first night together, breakfast is brought to you by outrigger canoe and served right at your overwater bungalow balcony.

For those of you willing to have their wedding ceremony organised in French Polynesian rather than in their home country, we will have to distinguish 2 cases : the civil ceremony and the traditional wedding ceremonies.

Tahiti & Bora Bora honeymoon

Civil wedding ceremony (getting legally married in Tahiti).

In May 2009, the law has been modified and now allows foreign tourists to celebrate a civil wedding ceremony in French Polynesia : residence conditions have been cancelled.

To make this legal wedding ceremony takes place at the City Hall in front of the Mayor, you’ll just have to send legal documents 45 days before your trip.

Traditional ceremonies

Different wedding ceremonies are available in some deluxe resorts of Bora Bora but the most traditional one is organized by the Tiki Village in Moorea. The Tiki Village is a genuine Tahitian village where talented handicraftsmen work and live with their families in pandanus-roof fare (Tahitian hut).

The Tiki Village website describes it as follow :

“As you arrive by outrigger canoe at Tiki Village, our villagers line up on the beach to greet you and welcome you ashore to the sound of the gentle ukulele. The bride-to-be is then lead to the bamboo hut (or ‘fare’) where the women of the village prepare her for the ceremony. Therethey will massage her body with traditional ‘monoi’ oil and will  dress her for the occasion as a TahitianPrincess. (…) “

The Tiki Village proposes 3 wedding ceremonies :

  • The Princess wedding
  • The Royal wedding
  • The Royal Deluxe wedding
