The week of Monoï

This week dedicated to monoï is organized every year since 2007. Since its creation, the Monoi Here event reunites every person interested and passionate about this fragrant oil, called monoï. Since 1992, this oil, much coveted by all vahine has received a seal of quality. Always a moment of discovery and sharing, the week that celebrates Monoi included an exchange of traditional recipes in the aim to discover new varieties of plants and understand its benefits.

This week is meant to celebrate the monoï of yesterday (daily used by the elders) and the modern monoï. This yearly celebration of tahitian oil is based on the fact that polynesians have always used monoï in their daily lives : hair and skin care, tanning oil or massage oil… Monoï has always been a link between man and nature. It is an emblematic Polynesian product that has been exported throughout world idealizing the body and soul of any woman.

The week of Monoi involves a trade show grouping for each edition numerous exhibitors : growers, artisans, producers, laboratory representative or masseurs… Every year, the event is a huge success that attracts hundreds of visitors. This showroom is generally composed of conferences, workshops and meetings. The 4 days showcase the following aspects of Monoi :
_ The first space will be dedicated to the cultural aspect of monoï with movies and conferences about its history.
_ The second will display various ways of monoï making (concept and production).
_ The third space will displays the numerous uses of this traditional oil thanks to various workshops (traditional massage, treatment, relaxation…).
_ The last one makes room for private companies that commercialize monoï’ throughout the world (cosmetics, skin case, etc).

Each year, the Monoi week takes on a specific theme. The theme for this 5th Monoï Here will be the « New Vahine ». The actors on the monoï here week endeavor to give a definition of this « new vahine » to the visitor through their different booths and workshops. They envisage this modern vahine and the role of monoï in her life. Also to be discussed will be on wellness, beauty and sensory stimulation …

For this edition, the Monoi week will take place from November 15 to 18 in the Cultural center of Papeete. This showroom will also be the opportunity to discover the newest cosmetic products locally made. Then, the monoï here event will renew their event in some twenty other islands of french polynesia. It seems normal that the monoï oil is also celebrated in these distant islands because they are the place where the raw materials for monoï are produced (the Tiare tahiti and the coprah). These far-off islands are the base of the international monoï manufacture.
