Kaukura

Oval in shape, this atoll of 50 kms by 14 kms and divided
into two groups of 65 islets, encloses a shallow lagoon with crystal
clear waters.
The main village of Raitahiti nestled under the coconut
trees on the northern part of the atoll has its own small airdrome
close by. The 379 inhabitants depend mainly on lagoon fishing for
their livelihood and their many fish parks supply the markets of
Papeete with fresh fish.
Homestay tourism now happily supplements the other traditional
activities.
