Takapoto - Description

This charming little atoll, 20 kms by 6 kms, with no reef pass is almost totally given over to pearl farming. Its sheltered lagoon is used for collecting the baby mother of pearl and the site of many pearl farms.

The village of Fakatopatere stretches out in a narrow tongue of land between the lagoon and the ocean.

Nearby, very beautiful white sand beaches and the remains of Takai marae built of raised coral blocks are the main points of tourist interest along with visits to the pearl farms.
